Sunday, May 11, 2:30-4:30 p.m.
Join harpist Megan Sesma and soprano Allison Landstedt for a heartfelt Mother’s Day performance at the New Britain Museum of American Art. This unique program celebrates motherhood in all its forms, mothers past and present, mothers of children and animals, and even Mother Earth herself.
The performance features poetry honoring the many expressions of motherhood, alongside a rich musical program of Broadway selections, cherished opera arias, and the performance of A Mother’s Love, a work commissioned for the duo by composer John Tafone.
Come share in this moving tribute to the enduring spirit and love of mothers everywhere.
For this special Mother's Day Celebration Concert, light fare is included with your ticket, and there will be a cash bar with Mimosas for purchase.

About Megan Sesma: 
Megan Sesma has performed in venues that range from Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow Russia, the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Carnegie Hall, the White House, and numerous concert halls worldwide. Her experience has placed her under the batons of some great conductors ranging from Neeme Jarvi and Yuri Temirkanov to John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. Ms. Sesma has also shared the stage with such legends of contemporary and popular music as Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Diana Krall, and Dianne Reeves.
Ms. Sesma holds a Bachelor in music from the Eastman School of Music as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Rochester and a Masters Degree in harp performance from New York University. Ms. Sesma is adjunct professor of harp at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT, and Connecticut College in New London, CT and harp instructor at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, and was the 2nd Vice President and Northeast Regional Director for the American Harp Society from (2014-2020).
Ms. Sesma is currently the 1st enlisted principal harpist with the United States Coast Guard Band, which in February 2003 added a harp position for the first time since its creation in 1925. In addition to her position as principal harpist with the USCG, she substitutes with the New Haven Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Hartford Symphony, New Britain, Bridgeport, Manchester and other symphonies. Ms. Sesma was the 2013 recipient of the Latina Style Service Award for the Coast Guard, this is awarded yearly to one active duty female in the Coast Guard
 
About Allison Landstedt:

Allison Landstedt, soprano, is the sole vocalist representing the U.S. Coast Guard Band and demonstrates the vocal mastery of numerous styles, including Broadway, opera, and commercial singing. She earned her BFA at Carnegie Mellon University, Master of Music in Voice at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and is completing her Doctorate in Voice at the University of British Columbia.

Landstedt was recognized nationally for her televised solo performance at the historic Yankee Stadium in New York. Video performances of her singing have reached millions of viewers. She has sung for some of the highest-ranking United States government officials, including the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, the Commandant US Coast Guard, the Deputy Secretary of DHS, as well as Fortune 500 executives.

Landstedt is a dedicated and lively voice instructor. Her students have been accepted to Opera Artist Diploma and Bachelor of Musical Theater programs and won spots in professional theater companies across the U.S. and Canada. Her students have earned top prizes at singing, acting, and choral focused competitions. Landstedt won the 2013 Best Leading Actress in a Musical award for the state of Texas, continuing to the Broadway stage to compete in The Jimmy Awards, a televised national competition for winners of each state. She was four times awarded Best Actress in the 2013 Texas UIL One-Act-Play Competition and winner of the Honorable Mention All-star cast. For operatic singing, she was a finalist in the 2019 Patricia Corbett Competition and the 2018 Lewis Foundation Vocal Competition.

Landstedt has coached with world-class artists such as Martin Katz, Kathy Kelly, Gary Wedow, and Howard Watkins. Her voice teachers include J. Patrick Raftery, Gwen Coleman, and Daniel Teadt.
